Lonestar Pyrs & Paws-North is a rescue dedicated to helping saving southern Great Pyrenees in need as well as our local pyrs. We also help other large breeds as space allows.
In Feb. 2007 I adopted a fuzzy little white pyr pup, Willow, from a rescue in Texas. As she grew we fell in love with the breed. Paige Segovia from the original Lonestar Pyrs & Paws and I became good friends.
In 2008 Lonestar Pyrs & Paws- North was formed as we saw a big need to help the southern paws.
We felt that New England's climate was an ideal place for these magnificent dogs. Also, New Englanders are so much better at treating dogs as they should be treated.
A year later we have placed far more dogs than we initially anticipated.
We work with our main rescue in Texas as well as shelters in NC, GA, AL, MS,TN, KY & AR. We just started helping a shelter in St. Croix with the "Pets from Paradise "program
We foster these dogs in our own homes, not in shelters. We have the dogs pulled from kill shelters in the south and quarantined a minimum of two weeks in foster homes, we have them vetted to insure they are healthy and then have them transported north.
By having these dogs in our homes with our families and pets, we can better evaluate the dogs.
